Now I know what wading plugs are for!

I for one will ensure I now use a wading plug in the bell housing after this weekend!!

The Monday after Christmas I went on a pay and play at Broxhead Common, had a go through a water/mud run and didn't quite make it, sitting in mud and water up to the bottom of the doors for 15 minutes awaiting recover.

A week or so ago the starter motor failed, took it out, it was pretty gunged up, ended up replacing it with a new one which I fitted on Saturday morning, re-connected the battery, started up, no problem.

Jumped in to move it down the drive, no clutch! Checked the fluid, clutch seized, pumped the pedal quite a few times, clutch eventually came back.

Put it in gear, release the handbrake, front wanted to move, back didn't! Handbrake seized!!

So the moral is, if you don't use a wading plug, learn from my lesson, I have now bought one for less than £2 and will fit it everytime we go off road!!!!!!!

Join the "I had to replace expensive items (clutch in my case) due to not fitting wading plugs" club. It's an expensive club to join, but it's in no way exclusive!!!

Just repaired my handbrake after it seized mysteriously after some nautical activities.  :(    What are these wading plugs and where do they go? I've heard them mentioned before but I thought they were only needed if you were likely to exceed the 'out of the box 21" deep wading limit'

As I understand it, they'll do nothing to prevent handbrake problems.

You've got one plug that fits into the bellhousing and a second that fits into the timing case on later diesels.
