fronty suspension lift

im lookin for a new car to off road on fronteras seem to be quite cheap. Just wanted to know if theres any way of liftin the suspension on the cheap? :roll:
im lookin at early sports. only ever seen lwb's bein used off road. swb's any good??

hi there ,never owned or driven a frontera (i drive a defender 90) but have seen a swb fronty in action and i was impresed with its off road ability

Ive lifted my series A LWB and my mate used the same parts on a swb.

+2" Procomp shocks all around and trooper HD +2" Coils on the rear.

The front needs the torsion bar wound up.

Ive got 31" tyres very easily under it reckon a push you could squeeze 33" s in but it might need trimming.

Early fronteras before 95 have leaf springs on the rear so longer shackles to be used.

Or you could go the Calmini route but thats a bit ££££££££ish.

Get the 2.8 you wont regret it

If its leaf sprung you can get a local fabricator to make you a set of extended shackles to lift the rear like these


and then wind up the torsion bars to suit!

The early sport had a 2.0l petrol engine and while not bad off road it lacks grunt! The LWB seems to be a little tougher with more engine varients. The 2.8 being the most favoured! However the 2.3TD is a good plodder but wont get you anywhere fast and while the 2.5TDS is a cracking engine when running fine, it does suffer many problems. The 2.4i petrol can be abused (and i have done) but genarally you will be lucky to get over 20mpg.
