Coat of Arms (whats yours).

Stoke on trent
The Staffordshire Knot in the top panel is taken from the Tunstall Arms.

The Boar's head, in the top panel, was taken from the Stoke-upon-Trent (Stoke Town) Arms (The Arms of the Copeland Family).

The Portland Vase (top left quadrant) was taken from the Burslem Arms.

The Fretty Cross appears on the Arms of the town of Fenton.

The Hanley Arms provided the Dromedary Camel (top right quadrant) (Crest of the Ridgway Family).

The Eagle (bottom left quadrant) was taken from the Longton Arms (Crest of James Glover).

The Sythe (bottom right quadrant) is taken from both the Tunstall and Burslem Arms.

The Egyptian Potter at his wheel represents the pottery industry.

This is mine...



Not sure what it all means, but the Saracens head and the arm hiding the sword are on my signet ring. Each of these symbols represents my surnames.

I found this site... http://home.btconnect.com/welby-everard/default.htm  This is all about our family and goes back to 1086  :shock: thats almost a 1000 years

Unfortunatly I dont have the written meaning to hand and I cant remember what each bit stands for.

I will be having it tattoo'd onto my back in the new year, just as soon as my sister gets around to drawing it with a bit less detail in it...

Sorry to spoil everyone's fun... :oops:

There is no such thing as a "surname" coat of arms - arms themselves are incorporal heritable property and belong only to a single individual (subject to laws of inheritance) at any one time.  If you haven't matriculated arms with Garter King of Arms (in England) or the Lord Lyon King of Arms (in Scotland) then you don't have any!  Moreover usurping or assuming arms in Scotland is illegal and there have been prosecutions even recently.

The Barclay family tree goes back to Normandy (its ok as france didn't exist back then), but this spelling of the name origionates in scotland so
