Wot he says!

Reports are that the Thames barrier is shut and the barrage at Rotterdam is also shut as precautionary measures. Knowing the shipping that uses Rotterdam (freight, Borax etc) - thats a heck of a precaution!

V8MoneyPit:
The local news this morning said that it wasn't quite as bad as predicted. But there has still been some local flooding.

Tidal Surge - Scarborough 9/11/07

At 01:06, this morning (09/11/07) Humber-Yorks 4x4 Response received a call from North Yorkshire Police to assist with the recovery of a broken down camper van from Marine Drive Scarborough.

H&Y4x4Response Chairman and Area Coordinator Ian Clark was closest and attended in his suitably equipped Land Rover Discovery (photogragh attached). The camper van in question was immobilized due to suspected gearbox failure and its 2 occupants had been preparing to spend the night in the vehicle. With waves breaking over marine drive the camper van was successfully dragged to safer higher ground.

A second call out was received from North Yorkshire Police at 02:36, this was to remove a car from West Pier. On this occasion 2 vehicles were dispatched. Ian Clark (Land Rover Discovery) and Andre Howden (Daihatsu Sport Track). The Volvo had been left on West Pier and its owner could not be contacted. With waves breaking over the West Pier the car was dragged to safer higher ground.
