Knocking noise in 200tdi head? HELP??????

My def 200tdi has a knocking noise for a while which started as a ticking noise about 18 months ago. It doesnt really start untill the engine heats up and gets louder as the revs increase and speeds up with the revs.
Useing a rod against my ear ive checked the vac pump and injector pump,water pump, injectors, turbo and they sound ok but ive found the noise is in the head on the turbo side and can be heard quite loudly with the rod touched on the rocker rail while the engine was running. All the gaps are set ok at .008 thou so what can this tapping be as its really getting on my nerves as i cant get to the bottom of it.

does it do it under load ?

It does it under both load or reving, and the higher the revs the louder and faster it gets.

now i had this problem on a old 200 after it got cooked and it was the exhaust valve seats  :?
the guilds wernt very cleaver also though  :?

I think ill remove the rocker rail and see if anything is amiss.
