Wheel Bearing Play

(1/3) > >>

Mark_Solesbury:
Hiya

There is a knocking coming from the nsr wheel on my 90.

If you grab the wheel at the top, and shake you can hear it knock and there is a fair bit of play.

Im gonna strip it and look at the weel bearing tomorrow...

if its not that - any other ideas?  If you hold the back plate of the disk, you can feel the play in that area...

clbarclay:
Worn swivel bearings would also allow play in the top of the wheel, but usually you get steering wheel vibrations when they start to wear.

Paul:
Shake it again and get someone to put the foot brake on, if the knock stops it's the wheel bearing, if it's still there it's the swivel pin bearings or something else...

Have you checked your wheel nuts are tight  :)

davidlandy:
if its the rear wheel as said its the bearing.

dead easy to do, fortunatley as they seen to need a lot of attn.

Paul:
Read it as nsf not nsr  #-o

Same still applies to putting the foot brake on but it won't be your swivel bearing at fault - just loose wheel nuts
