on full lock my tyres rub on radius arms common fault i hear you shout but my friends passed at one garage but mine failed today at another for it. i thought about wheel spacers but that will make them stick out the arch a good 30mm another FAIL i hear you can adjust the steering stops?? where are these and would it work? plus i have a power steering leak and i hate playing with leaks :( any ideas and pics wud be great to solve my tyres rubbing problem. thanks mike

Its easy

To adjust the lock, its a bolt that screws into the swivel housing on the opposite side to the wheel you are adjusting.

Excuse the state of my Range Rover, but it looks like the bolt that holds nothing on in the middle of this pic...



If you put yours on full lock, you can easily see which bolt it is.

My helpful local garage once thoughtfully tightened up the bolts when they did some work on the hub  :twisted:  Drove off up the road and nearly ripped the lugs off the tyre when I turned right.  If they don't know what it is, they should leave it alone!

Fitted like a pro bodge by the previous owner i would imagine!

is it to stop the spring dislocating under articulation? I know some defender owners clamp the top of spring with jubilee clips.

add some lube to your stop locks before attempting because mine snapped off on one side the other day.

mine does the same and passed mot at a landie shop but nice to find where adjustment can be made though im going to git rid of tyres n put dif ones on my nad dont like the 235/85's labours a bit

It shouldn't be since the spring is secured to the axle (in standard setups anyhow)

although,  yes,  a jubilee clip or other such device is used (or can be) to stop the spring dislocating.  I personally prefer to fit relocation cones but YMMV of course.

the spring isnt secured to the axle in standard form on the front as there is a shock in the way :wink:

only secured on the back in standard form

I don't think it should have failed for that, its not on an mot. He probably attributed your power steering leak to it (which is a fail). Both mine have always passed at different garages despite having significant rub issues. I like to get as much lock as i can and the noise irritates my old man!

reading that &  the previous two posts, it sounds to me like your MOT tester is very strict as my old Vit passed with this much offset:



& the front tyres fouled the body work (whilst on full lock only).

Next year, I'd look for another test centre mate  :wink:
