LOL, I was travelling to Devon from Fleet last week and got stuck at the M3/M25 Interchange where it gloriously pronounced a delay of 15mins due to an accident.  Took more than an hour to get through and as ever whatever had caused it had long since gone.

worse still, a Road Angel 9000 I was testing happily announced that Westbound there were no issues but that it was heavy Traffic Eastbound.  Which was useful as there was nowt wrong Easbound  :?

Yes thats also in the package thats been being trialed.

The fact Microsense and Siemens (both have local offices/research units)use the M27 corridor as a test bed as the traffic flows are very variable means that various systems have been in place for years, some have failed others have been expanded.
One ANPR system that was to rival SPECS fell down on vunerablity, the local kids smashed the bridge mounted cameras and cut the cables near to us at home, now they mount them lower/under the parapit in stronger enclosures, though the really new systems use such small cameras you probably wouldn't even notice them amounst the other junk...

One system was supposedly even able to estimate tread wear, though none seem to be able to catch non-indicating lane swappers or hand-held mobile phone users, yet.

One day the powers that be, might invent some system of Policing the roads. That way they could stop more than just speeding, maybe catch dangerous drivers, drunk drivers, unroadworthy vehicles and other dangers on the road.
