front diff or cv joint?

got excess play on front diff,also noise like someone hitting prop with a stone and slight vibration,how do i tell if its cv or diff and if its diff will a rear diff fit front or disco range rover fit,oh its 300 tdi 90,cheers gus

a cv joint when nackerd will click on full lock,
a diff wil just give up without any warning
you sure it isnt a worn u/j ?
drain the diff oil off if it makes you feel better tho

clear ep90 colour..good

white....your getting water in big time !

your diff will be 24 spline so you will require another 24 spline
how ever a rear disco 24spline diff uses a rubber coupling and is a 3bolt flange, so that will require changing
best bet is to find aother front 24spline diff, or a rear 24spline diff from a 90
yes they will fit from front to back ect to answer your question

When was the last time you greased the u/j's ?
I had a similar noise on taking up drive, but cured it with copious amounts of grease pumped through as the joints were dry.

it aint ujs i checked them there fine and i greased them when i serviced it last not that long ago,as you say i would expect diff just to go,but on take up there is that klanging sound,will check oil see what state its in,cheers gus

just an update the diff and cvs were fine it was the flanges on the front hubs that were worn,so a cheap fix!!!!
