Smoky 200tdi - Argh!!

Hello can anyone shed any light on my smoky disco problem.

Today I've cleaned out all the intake pipes, the intercooler and associated pipe work, the black whotsitsname attached to the top of the engine.

All of these had oil traces in them and once cleaned therre is now no longer any smoke, What causes this? Is it a build up of pressure somewhere in the system, if so how do I fix it?

Chances are your engine is starting to breathe heavily due to age, blow past the pistons pressurises the crankcase and it gets forced out the top breather and recirculated back into the air intake

not really a fix if so the engine is simply old, if so an option is to extend the top engine breather and run it down to the chassis and itll drip on the ground instead of recirculating the oil into the air intake,,,

I see it as one of those things with older engines, the engine crank case breaths into the intake, which leads to a slight hint of smoke, you may have got rid of it for now, but it'll be back!!!

Previous owner had done that to serenity, I cant say I would recommend it as it makes a mess and wont really acheive that much tbh. You shouldnt be loosing THAT much oil fron the crankcase, not fron the breather.

You might want to pop the filler cap off and see if its 'chuffing' which may indicate a serious fault.

It could be the headgasket is starting to go .Usually they go on cylinder number 3 through to the pushrod holes and the engine pressurising the oil and pushing vapour into the intake.Thats what mine did .Just wished I,d had the head skimmed it would have saved me a lot of grief
