Radio Interference

piper5:
hi dave what radio are you running i had same problem with my yaesu 857/atas setup, it was unuseable on hf i had power straight to battery with ferrites everywhere, lost the plot and put my icom dual bander in no probs,i have asked various raynet people etc to no avail, i have put it aside as a winter project, worryingly the one comment i have had several times is buy an icom!, let me know how you get on or if you want some help i am just over the bridge in west fife.
one thought i did have is there is a radio transmitter in the roof between the sunroof positions for the alarm. which has known interference problems , i have changed mine to the modded one to no avail.

DaveMac:
Hi piper5,
Yup, problem with FT857 and Atas120. Antenna mounted on rear wheel carrier. Tried other antennas, Hustler, Pro-Am etc. Interference still the same. OK on VHF, UHF and higher HF bands, but very bad on 40mtrs.
Substituting DL for antenna, clears all noise. Interference is radiated, and not coming through power leads etc.
Seems source is injector firing/ECU generated.
Near to giving up 40mtr /M.
Any suggestions?
Dave

Wait 'til the water ingress ruins your Yaesu !!!

Sorry, don't know how to solve your problem, always run Icom/Yaesu in my Defender but never had any problems :?

Not solve problem yet. Have tried cheapo ferrites (Maplin) on injector loom, but these only made a very slight reduction. (Since found out these are almost useless for this application!!!)
Have now ordered the correct ferrites, from another source, for suppression of 1 - 100Mhz interference. Hope to be trying these this weekend, subject to post delivery!
Watch this space. I will post results.

Cheers
