Supermarket Policy?

Listning to radio the other day, a gentalman wrote in to say about being asked for verification that he was over 18 and a supervisor to sign off on it to buy a pair of garden shears - he celibrated his 80th birthday the other week

Personally I wouldn't let anybody buy something as pointless (ie. blunt) as cheap plastic cutlery, for picnic I find you only need one knife and they tend to have folding steel blades.

That almost sounds like my daily carry tool (Winchester Engage Plus Tanto Blade) which survives being used as a chisel being tapped with a 4lb lump hammer when removing rust on the land-rover to buttering rolls after cutting them!
I also have a Spyderench and Winchester multiplier and a few other, mainly broken, knives, mostly only lasted weeks, I don't use my Swissarmy knife anymore as its closed bitting me once too often...

My Scouting knife is a fixed blade Frosts Mora (and a Kershaw camp axe with a belt mounting mask), other lane/path clearing tools include a 48" slasher, billhook and a machete...

Nanny doesn't like sharp things, but so often you can't work without them!

Supermarket policy, no, Gov't knee-jerk legislation!

Funny you mention that, Alison got a set of mini garden tools at B&Q yesterday and they required age verification :S

Mind you, you'd better beware of anybody buying a saucepan or even dare I say a frying pan, both evil and deadly weapons in the wrong hands. :?

Also the thought of someone purchasing a can opener sends shivers down my spine

Also the effect of a full can of baked beans can cause injuries, both opened and unopened.

I suppose I better go get a licence so I can carry such offensive items in public :?
