Disco TD5 Problem
Fergy:
I have a 2001 MY disco TD5 that has developed a problem. It doesn't want to rev past 2500rpm! (when it is warmed up it will creep further but not much).
Renewed filters & drained fuel to remove possible dirt/blockages - no joy.
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.

Throttle potentiometer............on the end of the peddle..

Fuel pump I reckon - can you hear it whine when you turn the ignition to stage 2.............if not, then the pump (in the tank) is FUBAR'd, if you can then it could be a blockage between the pump and injectors.
If the pump is stuffed - it's easy to change, all done from inside the boot. Take the trim strip off where the boot carpet meets the back bumper, lift the carpet, you see a round panel in the floor - undo all the screws and lift the panel out the way. You can now see the top of the pump and the connectors - disconnect everything (make sure you label the fuel connectors), undo the big locking ring, lift out the pump (slowly, allowing the diesel to drain back into the tank as you go). Fitting the new one is just as easy.
One final thought - have you checked the fuel pump relay and fuses ? my pump died earlier this year - I checked the fuse and substituted another relay, and still ended up changing the pump - and that's what really hurt, the pump is painfully expensive, you'll not see much change from £250 !!
Ricky:
Check the injector harness and ECU first for oil contamination, well worth ruling it out before you do anything else.
Jimbo. you will need to pop across with your Nanocom!

That's one thing it doesn't show - fuel pressure !
