May have to stop off roading, may get a td5...
CNorman:
Dear all,
Have had a 300tdi (Disco) for a while and it has been supurb with cheap parts etc.
Looking at a td5 but...
The wheel bearings are £250 each!!! I used to have to change mine each year due to deep water fording.
The suspension is air, how do you raise that!
Someone out there must know if you can run a td5 off road for reasonabl emoney but from what i have seen, you cant!
TDi90:
dont do it!!!
Jimbo:
Can't comment on the wheel bearings - my Disco has done just over 95000 miles, has had some fairly reasonable abuse, and is still on original bearings.
Not all Td5's have rear air sus - only those with the 'SLS' (self-levelling suspension) option (factory fit on XS and ES models, optional on lower specs). Some peeps have binned the air and converted back to coils -and then stuck a lift in, others have found ways to lift Td5's and keep the air.
Digsit:
I know of at least two members (Hightower + Jas278) that use Discovery TD5's off road. Both are lifted and modified but as for costs - you'd have to ask 'em
Thrasher:
..and you can use air offroad with no problems at all!!!! I have no choice :)
