Wanting information on Norway
« on: October 01, 2007, 21:03:28 »
I'm thinking of a trip to North Cape in a couple of years.

If you want to go by car, you can drive there or take the boat up the coast.  For reasons of economy I'd like to drive one way, take the boat the other.

But, the drive's about 2,200KM from Oslo according to the Norwegian tourist board.  Which is quite a long way.  Has anybody done this, and if so, what sort of drive it is?  I know from experience that driving in Fjordland takes forever to get anywhere, because you're up and down fjords and mountains and across ferries all the time.  But I heard the route's much better.

Somebody on the L2B said they'd driven it in 15 hours, but given that's an average of about 100mph without stopping, I'm not convinced.  Any feedback very welcome.

I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Try the book, Rough Guide to Norway ,The rough guide series of books are usually spot on with info .including roads, routes to the north etc.
I think they're an essential book to take when travelling.
I bought this book acouple of years ago, read it from cover to cover ,worked out a trip to the north and back, but still havent got round to going yet. :( (also worked out how much it would cost in petrol in a v8 rangie ,considering the topography,at 5-10 mpg,.....and untill I win the lottery decided against it!
so Ive got to take the old girl(rangie)somewhere ,so maybe Iceland, which only involves a drive up to scotland, and a few hundred miles around Iceland.....
