Got my first taste of it today 8-[

Out of the comfort zone of student living, I am now started on a 12 month industrial placement at Caterpillar :D working on the design side of the backhoe loaders and so far I haven't had to make a single drink :? Then again I am being paid for this rather than being an intern :P

Biggest problem is they use pro engineer not solidworks for 3D CAD and some complicated (and slooooooow) network with the states so getting to grips with those will give me a nice headache.

More importantly whats the off roading like round the Leicester area?

I'm not suprised they use Pro-E over solidworks, it's a slightly more capable package. Be thankfull it's not Catia - there's one piece of software that doesn't like people!

I found Pro-E really quick to learn, but I came away from a weeks Catia course as clueless as when I went in! Unigraphics was my fav though - in 2hrs use I had already built a cardan joint - easy peasy!

Cheers

Off roading is good around leicester. I've not found too many taxing lanes though. For a P+P you gotta try avalanche adventure at sibbertoft, I know I'm biased cos the track is almost in my back garden, but everyone says is the best in the area!

I've never come across Catia, which I will take as a good thing.

Will need to do a more detailed search, so far had only glanced at an OS map that wasn't too promising.

Hmm Avalanche adventure have P+P on October the 14th and 28th, though they say their 'next one' is April 22nd 2007  , will have to see how soon I can get a RRC up here.
