Fruit flies
thermidorthelobster:
Each year we get a plague of fruit flies in the house; I'm pretty sure it's because of a batch of fly-infested compost.
Any tips on getting rid of the little sods? We swat them, we use fly paper, I spray insecticide on the leaves of the house plants, water the plants with insecticide so it gets into the soil, and I've even bought a carnivorous plant... but short of getting a chameleon, any idea how to stop it happening again next year?

If you have a few house plants cover the soil with pea gravel, this will stop them living & breading in your house. We had the same prob with soil flies useing the pots of my indoor bonsai as home
