110 Rebuild
« on: September 16, 2007, 18:30:20 »
Well time has come to rebuild my trusty steed.
I going to put a new galvanized chassis & want to put a new galvanized bulkhead on it too.
Question is...where can I get a galvanized bulkhead for a 200Tdi from?
Cheers
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

If it's the picture in the mag... then they are Td5 ones (I think, only had a quick look at the ad), which will require some mods to fit a 200Tdi...

And they are virtually the same price from a main dealer AFAIK..

iam in exactly the same boat.

i have found a galvanizer nearme that offers £50 per ton for galvanizing www.wedge-galv.org

IIRC

mine is a 200tdi 110 with a galv chassic already but the rest really does need a good tidy up

i'm trying to do a rolling resto a bit at a time but I know it will not lats like that.

I was going to galv all the bracketry body cappings and have  ascrewfix depot about 2 miles away with lots of shiny nuts and bolts and rivets.

I saw a few unpainted galv bulkheadfs at land rover festm last weekend and they do look rather good.

There are plenty of places currently doing new TD5 bulkheads for around £200 and the necessary changes to make one fit a 200TDi are minimal.
I would buy one, do a dry run and then send it off for galvansing. It may mean you have a delay of a couple of weeks but at least you know you won't be drilling any more holes through the new galvanised finish.

Having said that, a new bulkhead that has been properly rust-proofed should last 25-years or more so the question is, do you NEED a galvanised one or is it just a whim? Don't get me wrong, I am in favour of it but is it really necessary?
ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Hi Ray

No the old girl really is looking sorry so & new chassis, bulkhead, loom, doors etc etc should see her fit for another 20years
Will be doing it in my unit at Totnes so should be able to get it done fairly quickly...& in the dry!

Fed up with the salt water & air corroding everything so am going to get as much as I can galvanized...I'm a bit worried a galvanized bulkhead might look poo though

Plus side is Rangie will be back on the road so I can go play again  :D

I got to get the winch bumper off & sent to chassis people so they can profile the chassis dumb irons first before galvanizing...first of many jobs I feel
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!
