No Power, Smoke and a bit of a banging noise!
« on: September 12, 2007, 23:15:02 »
Ive just started my new toy and its well noisy, when towing it home under a bridge i though a tractor was overtaking me, and it was only idling for the brakes and steering!
also smokes and has no guts at all, my mate has looked at it and reckons he's seen mullered turbos have this effect, anyone have any other ideas?

i got it knowing it needed work and im prepared to get a new engine for it but obviously if i dont have to , i wont.

other than that its a lovely motor.

been told it could be the turbo or a blocked intercooler, will try these first and a damn good service before i splash out on a new lump.

with any luck she will be ready to play with in a week or two.

Is she smokey just when she starts or all the time she is running? My fourtrak currently has a smokey start but I've been advised this is down one of the glowplugs not working so it takes a little time to build the heat up in one of the cylinders.

If the turbo seals have gone the airbox breather should be full of oil, a slight smearing is normal, but it should be caked if the seals have gone.
Also check if there is any play in the turbo vains on the inlet, just pop the air inlet off and wobble the vains if they move sied to side at all its bust  :(

lack of power & smoke could mean turbo or intercooler but neither of these would make noise...especially like a tractor......sounds like pump timing to me!!
if i can still see my bonnet then the water aint deep enough!!!!
