He smashed the back out of the diff casing a few weeks ago, and sourced the axle unit on the bay..... CHEAP!!!

He was gonna change just the diff, but then decided it looked easier to change the lot..... til he coldn't get the shaft out!

I believe so, i think he undid all the bolts he could see, the nearside just came off easliy, but he couldn't see how to remove the offside one.... mind you, he was under the vitara, in a dark bran, with fading light.....

he will have to remove the whole front diff to get it out m8

if he has the money he cud get a ganvile conversion thus making the o/s halfshaft the same as the n/s one

Not that biga tyres, no body lift 'yet'....... but has taller springs.... i didn't actually see him break it, but i dare say he wasn't being too silly with it......

very odd thing to happen!!

sorry to but in on this,

you can change the shaft with out taking the hole diff out,i know you have to but for further refrence

undo steering rod,2 shock bolts at bottom, bottom nut on wish bone,

undo circlip, plus washer, then move the caliper,

know move the hole disc, plate forward, pop out shaft at disc end 1st,then pull the other end out from the diff, also if you jack that side higher you wont lose any oil,

then repet what putting it back together,

it can be done in 30 mins in a field,i had to do it last week

like i said sorry for sticking nose in,hope this helps,

mark :D

not really don i went throu 12 front diffs in 12 months and ive got m8s who have done about the same
one way to combat the problem is to fit a gv steel front axle with the 1.6 diff inners fitted  as it steel and not made of toffee he will find it hard to break it
but again there not cheap but when you compare it to replacing a diff every few months it can work out cheaper in long run

just so happens i no to one for sale as well lol

the way i do it is
undo the top bolts on the strut (3x 13mm i think)
take the clip off behind the freewheeling hub
pop the shaft out of the diff
take it all out and do it in reverse and job's done??

Yep that's exactly the way I do it, which left me puzzling why the diff would need to come out :?  :?

its just my preffance to do it that way
thing you have to remember ive always run lifted and h/d springs and unless you have a coil compresser ur never get them back into place
my thinkin is 12 bolts to undo on the diff or bout 10 other way and try to compress the spring
just my opinion

im sure the guy will do as he feels all we can do is offer him different ways
of doing the same job
