EGR Blanking

<< < (2/2)

mickelson:
Okay, I completely understand what EGR is all about and thanks to your links, i am gonna blank mine off. My next question comes from my lack of knowledge on how the 300tdi system works. When i bought mine a few years ago, the loom on top of the FIP was disconnected. I assume this this loom would normally carry the signal from the FIP when to open the EGR valve. 2 questions: 1. Does the EGR valve only open when the FIP is on full load, hence the signal is then supplied to the valve to open? If this is the case and mine is disconnected, do i really need to blank the EGR valve off?

BigA:
I may be wrong but, there is a possibility of the EGR valve not fully closing on older engines, and so even if not connected some gases may still be escaping ?

I have now totally removed my EGR valve, and flushed my inter-cooler, i must admit i didn't notice much difference with the EGR on its own, but with the inter-cooler cleaned there is a large noticeable difference. Mine is an auto though, so maybe why i didn't notice much in just the EGR?
