Full Disco Rebuild (with pics)
lee celtic:
This thread is awesome
great work Mick and helpers.  Keep up the good work.....
It's been very helpful for me as I am attempting something similar this summer , I am booking a week off to do all the welding on mine (boot ,floor ,inner wings etc) I have got together most of the parts I can see I need , but I was worried about the stuff I can't see ...
Some of those photos are great cutaway pictures showing how the sills and stuff go together and suddenly it doesn't look so bad to do .
I used to work as a welder so that doesn't bother me but how bits were done did scare me a bit . Love the idea of cutting off the outer A pillar doing the repair then putting it back on  ..
Mine has about the same amount of rust but is much older . (according to this months LRO it's a pre production one) and as others have said I have no intention of selling or scrapping it , It's not just a car it's my hobby . (mistress as the misses calls it ) it was registered on the road on the 20th of November 1989 with 600 miles on the clock day one ,so it's nearly 20 years old  and with a bit of luck will be around for a very long time. :D :D
I wouldn't want a jap truck (no offence to those who do) I just love my truck , though I still don't have a name for her and I've had her 5 years. :-k :-k
I was thinking Arian (welsh for silver........)

I scraped Pinky for less welding. I rebuilt a new green laner on a newer 300. When that reaches the end of its life I'll move onto other Land Rover or build a 100" defender hybrid or a NCF Blitz Sahara.
Here is what became of Pinky...

Well, she's still going strong, few tweaks here and there, general maintenance jobs etc.
I cannot recommend Mick's services strongly enough - he is honest, hard working and extremely competent in all things vehicular.
Anyway, this thread was posted (some time ago now  ) to give other club members an idea of the kind of work involved in carrying out these repairs and what can be achieved with a little time and replacement parts so it's probably time to recommend the thread is locked for posterity for others to use as a point of reference for any similar works or rebuilds (or restorations possibly) that they are carrying out.
I won't lock the thread myself as I would hate that to be seen as me abusing my privileges.

Yes I never realized it was such an old thread. Pays to read the dates of posts.
I can understand now I think more about it why you want to keep Ruby on the road. You have had the old girl for quite a long time now! I think I may have been a bit hasty in what I said. :-# Put it down to being hormonal or something! [-X
Just out of interest how is it fairing since having that work done?

Well I must be mad too I suppose, Mick is also responsible for rebuilding my Disco I, and a cracking job he did too, see the work here http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,65984.0.html another big job but very much worth it to me.
