buying a car...
mill2020:
--- Quote ---it, used to be a lease car... i looked round the car, the alloys had been mashed badly (curbed on every single one)
he said full service history by VW so i asked to see it, and he showed me... now this car has done 37,000 miles... apparently it had a new clutch at 35,000 miles!!!!!!!

Stay Away from that VW, Lease car? who to? sounds like it could be a ex-hire car. If the the leasing company were say Lex, Phh or Avral then it has been hamered by budget, enterprise or hertz etc.
generally speaking hire cars are normally only run by for 18mts or less, full dealer serviced to comply with the lease agreement and driven by people who thrash the nuts off them!
Then sold at trade auctions for keen money.
This may sound daft but have you tried the local free papers, over the years i've found some great buys in the local rags rather than the net or autotrader.
Good luck TDi90 in finding a motor, some little gem will turn up.
P.s YES to a Original Mk1 GTI, a old skool classic 8) 8) 8) 8)
V8MoneyPit:
We recently sold a 2002 MB A140 with only 29,000 on the clock. Climate control, cruise control, CD player, electric adjust seats, electric windows all round, 2 private owners, FSH and totally 'on the button'. And we were still messed about by some loser on eBay. Some people make my blood boil  Went to the second highest bidder who came all the way up from Heathrow area. Nice guy who was really pleased with the car. Went for £4300.
Not my kind of car, but my point is that nice quality, low mileage cars are out there.
TDi90:
thanks! im still looking.

I got my Fiesta from a Ford main dealer, 05 reg 18000 miles and it drives like a dream, is only a 1.25 as well.
They are pretty good little cars as well, not like they used to be.
TDi90:
