Back box gone AWOL, DIY or Kwik Fit?

<< < (2/5) > >>

JimsMowing:
I would say leave it, but it will fail an MOT not because of emmisions but because the exhaust fumes will hang around under the car and not escape as they should....at least thats what i was told about my disco...so i added some pipe to it.

Sounds good now with one less silencer!!

Bunnie:
ive been driving round for bout 3 months lacking my silencer...   went to every place i could think of but no one did just the centre section so went to pug... 100 so im not waiting to remember to phone kwik fit as i get 10% discount or save up the 100 to go to pug! but i do keep gettin told ill be pulled for it it i dont fit it as it happens to be quite loud!

meader:
just weld abit of tube on to it if you have a welder handy thats wot i plan on doing again .and your right about kwifit centers i call them failed macanics but it does make me laugh wen you go into one place and look round and see just how many of them have massive snap on roll cabs with nothing in them wen all they need is a couple of sockets and maybe a 13 and  a 14 mill spanner oh and a hammer

clbarclay:
The back box fell  off a brand new exhaust on my V8, and was replaced with a side exit made from old diesel exhaust (they only rust out in one place leaving meteres of good exhaust) which was just the right diameter to slide of the petrol exhaust.

Passed its MOT the other day without comment, though I did keep the back box with the intention of making it clamp on if the MOT did object to the boxless side exit.

Kwik fit etc. use the cheapest sources of exhaust they can find so often they don't fit straight on or catch on the body works so one common tool they use is an oxy-acetaline toruch to heat the exhausts and tweak them to fit.

Skibum...saw you tonight near Sainsbury's, truck looks good on the lift!  PM'd you re that parcel shelf...let me know...might need it for the weekend if you still have it!

Others...welding is not an option, I don't have one, and to be honest I can't be arsed.  Having a quick peek under the truck, the next join seems to be up by the gearbox somewhere, am I right in saying it's fallen off upstream of another join that was presumably just before the silencer?

If so a whole new system might end up being the way to go...GRRRR!!!
