BLACK SMOKE
Range Rover Blues:
Blocked intercooler could be right, the pump shouldn't overfuel if there is no turbo pressure, so a badly leaking hose wouldn't do that. Having had a hose pop-off before I can say they are gutless without the turbo.
Disco-andy:
just read your post and thought it was my disco you must have been driving. i had this very same problem last month, it turned out that the u shapped part of the air intake pipes was crushing under presure(no air=black smoke). I put in a nice little boge in and it solved it strait away. hope it helps. i cheeked it putting a bag over the snorkel!
johnpirate:
Mine was caused my the headgasket gone on number three pot through top the pushrods causing the sump to pressurise and oil went straight to the inlet manifold
mickelson:
Black smoke is normally a sign of over fuelling or lack of air. kind of the same really but both can have different causes. The fact you were off roading etc on Salisbury Plain may have caused some damge to a hose possibly. I have spent many years on the plain mending tanks so i know it well. Best of luck
Oz:
Striped and cleaned the intercooler and pipes.. balck smoke almost all gone when on ideal.. went and tested it and got a blow out.. so it may still be the got to put replacment tyre on and new head light from hitting the tree before i can properly test it grrr... BAD things happen in 3s
