Calipers ?
« on: August 05, 2007, 16:44:30 »
Suffered from a bad vibration and when coming to a stop got lots of blue smoke from the NSF wheel. Is it a common fault for the pistons in the brake caliper to seize ? Stripped and cleaned brake carrier , pads ,discs and surface of the hub. Pumped brake pedal with caliper off and piston moved out.Tried to get piston to go back but would not budge. Finally removed the brake pipes and put caliper in a vice.On winding the vice in there was a cracking sound and then piston moved back to original postion. Rebuilt and road tested and all seems fine but don`t want to take any risks with the braking system.
Anyone come across this before ? ](*,)

Cheers for your reply. I think its going to require a caliper replacement at sometime but will strip and clean the slides and piston after every off road trip to makesure all is clean and free...... #-o

Got in touch with my Landrover dealer today. Can get a replacement piston and seal for the calipers at only £13.57 + vat. May be worth giving this a try .Got to be better than the cost of a new caliper.... \:D/
