Help please - Gearbox problem..
« on: July 30, 2007, 14:31:27 »
When leaving work today, came to reverse out of park - and no way would it go into reverse gear (300tdi Disco) all forward gears are fine, but lever won't come across into reverse position.

Any ideas please, we're supposed to be driving round Wales on holiday next week..

whip the entire cubby box out and you will see like a rubber covering protecting the gearbox. You can either cut this or drill the rivets out

You should be able to see the gearbox then   We had a problem like this and it was a bit of metal that had fallen into the reverse gear gate : removed this and put it back together, hey presto carryed on the rest of the day & touch wood it still works  8)

Just had a look, same thing - a bit of metal fallen in and stopping it going over Question is, what does that piece of metal do...  :?

Think it was just from the top of the gearbox casting (but don't quote me)

The selector plate in the top of the gearbox is a plate with a bit of metal sticking up out of it, this snaps over time. It could be this, question is, how easy is it to find the gears, if easy then doubtful this, if hard to locate then there's your metal bit
