can anyone help power steering box is leaking from drop arm where can i get a puller to change seal and is it worth it or do i need a new box no play in steering only puller i can find is hydraulic and dearer than new box OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

wizard:
Hi
I have been down the replacing seal route before. Generally it wont last more than a year. If its leaking it is due to mechanical wear of the shaft rather than the seal being the problem. a new seal will stop the leak but not forever.
I have a puller you are welcome to use if we can arrange the MC express from Cardiff to Coventry.
If the fluid is not poaring out you could try some power steering stop leak fluid, have a look on e bay for it.
I cant put a link to it as i will get sent to bed without supper again.

You would be better off saving up for a recon box.

If you can get hold of one then an oxy-acetaline touch to heat the arm makes it much easier to remove, it will ruin the seal, but if its leaking anyway then it doesn't really matter.

Pullers come in a wide range of prices and qualities, compaines like machine mart sell them for under a tenner

Though IMHO its worth spending slightly more and getting one that won't bend the first time you use it.

thanks for the help chaps tried a normal puller dont work have to have special one where did you get yours from wizard

wizard:
I got mine from Cromwells a few years ago now though.
Its similar to this

bit pricey for a 1 off job though.
Have you tried a tool hire place, they wont charge the earth for a few hours use.
