That's opening a can of worm's. In Reality i would say yeah they are pretty good off road - of course this depends on what you are comparing it to????
If you are comparing it to a disco then i would have to say the disco is better, but a 4trak (perfomance wise) wouldn't show you up in front of your LR mates. They may laugh and take the p**s until you tell them how much you paid for it and that it doesn't break down everytime drive it.*

The 2.8Diesel is a really good engine with plently of pull and there is a good supply of parts around - non running complete vehicles for the price of 12mths RFL or less on fleabay.

I'm gonna shut up now i sound like a numpty.

Since seeing yours on the bedford levels ive been tempted by a slowtrack.. the only things stopping me is getting rid of the frontera and finding one as cheap as yours!

Well it seemed to work pritty welll... but i now have another question... when we were out plaing in the mud we found he had no drive to the front wheels when in 4wd high or low... any one got any ideas

has it got freewheeling hubs???? and the one thing i found with fourtracks is the sills  :shock:  try buying some (if you find any let me know ,my mates been looking for ages for some) :lol:  not a bad motor otherwise

It got automatic freewheeling hubs (thats what it says on em)... what seals etc u mean?

not seals "sills" the metal bit below the door lol :lol: suffer with excessive corrosion and are not as im aware available as a pattern part . the free wheeling hubs may not be working properly ,especially if its never seen mud  :lol:

i think fudge had a problem with his drive train when he first bought his, cant remember what exactly but hes the man to ask

Your hubs sound like they arnt engaging, simply strip them down and refit checking all the circlips are in place and the splines are not worn, should be fine then.
Auto hubs do wear out.

ok mate... its never been used in 4x4 says the old owner so what do i need to do to them to get em working.. Hit em with hammer like my landy?

Noooo  :lol:  take the wheel off to make it easier and take the (think) 6 bolts out and inspect the hubs, if they are like mine you will see a spring and circlips, basically make sure every thing is in good order, and greased, but dont over grease them.
If you see a circlip loose (likely cause) just pop it back in.

Bity of advise if you go wading, use marine grease in the hubs and a bit of silicone or sealant around the edge of the face plate when you refit it

If Your after bits for a 4trak i agree it would be well worth PM'ing Fudge as he works for a Daihatsu main dealer or speak to Milner off road they supply parts for most jap 4x4's and are very reasonably priced.

 The slowtrak was to cheap to ignore, i think as it's big brother the 4trak grabs the lime light people ignore the slowtrak making it a damm cheap off roader. Keep trawling fleabay there are bargin's out there.

Fourtraks are very capable off road and are extreamly easy to lift and are in my opinion are better that standard disco's off road as disco's have huge asses (big overhangs) and my daihatsu went everywhere a disco could go and places they couldn't there are a top motor and really serviceable  :D

Hey Frosty long time no see, when are you gonna come out play?

   As soon as i fix the truck, clear the site for the new conservatry, finish the garden, re do the driveway, fit a new kitchen decorate the hallway, buy a new 4x4 (either a slowtrack or sj) replaster and sink the sockets in the bedrooms..

   sod it, ill do the important jobs, sell the frontera and buy a new truck...so sometime around the end of august hopefully!
