Filling an R380 gearbox with oil cooler system.
« on: July 19, 2007, 00:23:59 »
I have just drained my R380 gearbox and was wondering where you would fill the system as it has the oil cooler fitted. As it requires 3.4 litres rather then the 2.9 on one without. Is it done through the normal filler on the side of the box? Also is there any trick to drain out the oil cooler system? The oil looked like it has not been changed for a very long time. Going to be refilling with the Difflock EVOLUTION 1 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil.  :)  Any thoughts would be greatful as this is the first time dealing with an oil cooled system, used to the LT77 boxes :).  Ant

My LT77 has a front mounted oil cooler and TBH most of the oil drained away without any fuss.  I guess if you want to be throough you could split one of the pipe unions near the front mounted Rad, introducing air will allow more oil to drain down.

You would fill as normal but I suggest you re-check the level after driving it as the oil cooler will be full of air untill you do so.

I have filled it up to the level on the flat then tilted the rangy so as to get a bit more in, as its wanting 3.4 litres. Even though I done this only got 2.7 in of the new stuff :). Will give it a check once I get back from billing. Cheers Ant
