Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

What a job that was..

Removed starter only to find there was nothing wrong with it. ](*,)

Bench tested it and it worked fine, Refited it and greased all the
connections up and it fired up straight away.. \:D/

Right I thought... Time to look at the washer jets and see if I could get
them working again, Pressed the stick and they worked. :D  Pressed
it again and nothing. :(   Also now that the washer jets have stoped
working again the starter has packed up again too. :(

So it looks like a problem with the washer jets and the starter motor
are related... Any ideas anyone...? :?

One of the feeds from the ignition switch I'd guess.

Try wiggling the key...   and then pull your eyelid down as far as it will go

The starter has a relay, ours is in the block behind the washer bottle........

...Coincidence you say?  Well I've had to swap this relay before now, it's not a sludge proof as the starter.

Top Man  =D>

Found the offending relay hiding by the washer bottle,
Mounting screws had came loose causing a bad earth to the starter
motor and the washer pump + other things, Better screws fitted and
greased up and it starts again...... Washers are working again too. \:D/

Cheers RRB for pointing me in the right direction.  :D
