Disco Front Propshaft

(1/3) > >>

KingWolf:
I've had a bit of a knocking noise coming from the transmission for a while now, I greased the uj's and props a couple of months ago and didn't notice anything odd, it never seemed all that bad and thought it was just the old girl talking to me...lol

Well today I decided to have a lay on the gravel and see if I could see anything wrong. And to my horror I found the front uj at the transfer box to be in a poor state of affairs. One of the legs has completly broken off...!!!! It's nearly broken the bleed nipple off and has started to round off one of the bolts...Ouch...!!!

I've ordered another uj but I was just wondering (and please excuse my ignorance here) would the Disco be safe to drive if I were to remove the front propshaft until I can get it fixed?

Mark.

Disco-Ron:
Safe yes, if you put it in Difflock obviosly, wise...well, thats another question, theoretically it should be fine, the uj's are quite easy to come by, so it shouldn't take long to fix!!

Dr Neil:
not really no!!

You would have to drive it in difflock which puts excess stress on the transmission   so my advice is park it up until it's fixed.

Sorry to give you bad news

Neil....

KingWolf:
Well I don't want to be taking any chances so I quess I'll be leaving it on the drive till the parts arrive.

Thanks
Mark.

wizard:
Drive it
take of the front prop, select diff lock and drive it. i promise no harm will come.
Repair the prop at your leisure, put back on and de select diff lock.

wizard
