Sara Nelson Gingerbread Shop
Church Cottage
College Street
Grasmere  (just off the A591 Ambleside -Keswick road)
LA22 9SW
01539 435155

OS 89/336 674

Quite simply an exquisite delicacy that is to all intents & purposes World reknown (if the number of foreign tourists that descend on the shop are anything to go by)
It's probably quite differant to Gingerbread as most people know it, as it is baked to an old recipe that's a very guarded secret.
Do yourself a favour if you're passing by..

Grasmere is also a wonderful little village, famous of course for its (William) Worsworth connections.

There's also an excellent model shop in Grasmere. :D Barneys, I think they call it.  Food wise.  The Wheatsheaf in Lorton, near Cockermouth. Royal Oak, Sour Nook, Sebergham on the Penrith/Wigton road.  As to be expected, the prices are higher in the Lake District,  than those in the surrounding areas.

Don't know how I missed out this one.  Golf Hotel,  Silloth.  Sounds posh, but a most hospitable and friendly establishment.  We dine there now and then.  Good food and reasonable prices.  Good pint of John Smiths as well.
