"Soft" A bars/bullbars...

Energy absorption, yes they hurt like anyone's business but they do tend to absorb enough of the energy to make it no more dangerous than being hit by a car without a bullbar ...

Call me radical here, but...........

we have footpaths and pavements for people and we have roads for vehicles..

If pedestrians use there eyes, ears and common sense then they won't get hit!!

True and how meny people do you see crossing the road about 30 foot away from a zebra crossing cos they cant be bother to walk up to it.

And if every driver also used their full concentration and drove comfortably within their limits and the limits of the road, then you could argue that car don't need any form of crash protection.

I still see a twisted sence behind the idea of fitting every vehicle with a large spike in the middle of the steering wheel and banning seatbelts for drivers. My experiance is that most drivers exceed or are on their limit most of the time, being lulled into a false sence of security. It's just most of the time they don't get caught out.

I will agree that its not just car drivers that are dangerous but they certainly arn't blameless.

There are over 400 points of them - all going into the pocket of the only guy in this country (possibly even Europe) making them.

And this guy is very anti steel bull bar, so anti in fact that it wouldn't surprise me if he and his company were the driving force behind the recent legislation

Oh, I agree whole heartedly, there is not a day goes by when we witness someone pulling a stupid stunt or even a lapse in concentration that pushes things somewhat towards the dangerous. Trouble is a lot of drivers put the act of driving somewhere around priority 5 on their list of things to do putting things like talking on the phone, changing the CD eating lunch etc

i was given a choice of a soft nudge bar it was called i told them i wasnt at all interested now i have a nice bull bar,

if anyones interested most probly know but on here around may time i was told that it would be illegal to fit bull bars after may 15th or simular date, so i went along and fitted it anyway after the date, it is only illegal to sell bull bars not to fit them according to LRMand my product design teacher ( wouldnt listen to him any way  :D )

i think its dafte because if your going to run some one over the chances are they arnt going to look very good after with/without a bull or nudge bar.

The sad irony is that all the mums with various 4x4s with bullbars drag their kids in and out of school, and when doing so are not keeping proper control of them and poor little johnny gets splattered over the tarmac.

What happens? it must be the bullbars fault OBVIOUSLY!

I used to go to see a friend not far from me, I kept telling him his kids where going to get run over as he just let them run riot over the road. which was a through road BTW. I used to parkup and they'd be running round the car and  I nearly squashed one, I just saw the top of this little lads head bobbing along the bottom of the passenger side window :shock:. I forgot to mention the eldest was about 9 years old and the youngest was 4 at the time.

Anyway the worst did happen. thankfully I wasn't involved in anyway, the girl Kate ran straight out from behind her fathers parked car and directly into the front of a passing car. it was doing less than 20mph past the house as the woman driving knew what it was like there. Unfortunatley kate got dragged under the nearside front wheel, it did an awful lot of damage to one of her legs and nearly had to have it amputated.

Kate spent 3 weeks in hospital and I think around 10 months with what looked like scaffolding around her leg, not to mention various skin grafts etc.

The worst part is during her stay at hospital the only people there with her were my mother inlaw and my wife as her parents went on the holiday they had booked.  

Where was the responabiltiy, it wasn't the car drivers fault, i'd even go as far as to say that the poor woman driving should have sued the parents for mental anguish etc due to their neglegance, the poor cow was distraught. but everyone tried to blame her.

Needless to say I never spoke to them again.

perhaps one solution would be to make the bullbars out of confectionary, a bit like the car in the Skoda add. At least the person who might get hit by it could then eat the bar before it did any serious damage.
Of course to be completely PC, the bar couldn't contain any E numbers or artificial colouring and would have to have a sticker on it, saying, 'colllision with this bar may cause tooth decay'.
