been looking around for a lift kit which im gonna get end of the month and been thinking of a 2" kit which will set me back about £260 inc brake lines.

but found this : 3" lift kit inc bump stops, straps and brake lines for just a little bit more.

Just wondered if anybody has any opinions on it?

Also would i still be able to run a standard prop? and would i get 3deg castor arms or 6deg as its in between the 2???

Also gonna get a bodylift just to give the cool look factor and to give me more room in the arch for whatever size tyres i decide on getting :)

your props are going to start to vibrate and eat your ujs at 3"lift :wink:  stick with a 2" :wink:

is there a relatively cheap ish way of getting over this?

slightly longer prop or have heard about a adaptor you can put in to legnthen it?

to be honest the way i got round it was to buy a td5 prop and output flange which was exspensive you need to ask your self why you really need a 3"lift :?:  also you will need to look at the strain putting that type of lift on wil cause you radius arm bushes and trailing arms!!!! then you will be looking castor corrected arms then :shock:  so in the end somethig that would have cost £260 ends up being more like £700 :wink:

i will be needing castor correction arms for a 2" lift anyway so thats already on the shopping list.

a 3" lift will give me more travel which will perform better off road thats the only reason for the extra inch really.

Sounds an obscure question, but what state are your swivels in?

If I was to do it all over again, I'd stick with the standard radius arms and go for the caster corrected swivels instead. The corrected arms aren't as tough as the originals and the swivels have less impact on the propshaft. But arms are easy peasy to swap, where the swivels will take at least a day to change (and it's a tedious job!).

The prop UJ will be prone to a accelerated wear with a lift as you are asking the joints to work through a greater angle, which shortens their life quite dramatically. A prop with a Double Cardan joint in (ala D2) will reduce the working angles and imporve working life.

Hope some of this is usefull.

I currently run QT 3deg arms with a custom DC prop on a 1+" lift Defender.

Having just done a +2, DON'T do a +3.

Having spoken to a guy who did a +3 and said DON'T do a +3, DON'T do a +3.

By the time you have fitted +2 and some big MTs, the drive will be very different.  See my other +2 thread on here...I must admit that now and only now that I have put it back on Freestyles on big rubber do I think looks wise it was worth the effort.  I say looks wise as I have yet to do the camel cut and fit the hoses and actually make any difference to off road ability!!!

I can already notice the difference in UJ noise (and bear in mind they were all new less than 2000 miles ago), tyre noise and it's now a right royal pain in the arse to get into!!!!

I know I'm newish here but just my 2p worth...
1995 Discovery 300 Tdi...steering guard, diff guards, +2" full lift kit/ProComp 9000s, extended braided brake hoses, 265/75/16 MTs on Freestyles, Camel Cut, Team ME4 CB, Southdown snorkel, Defender A-bar and Wipac 4x4s, Forte treatment in anything that moves and a shiny new boot floor!

Hi Simon.

Been reading a few of your posts recently and I have a question.

Is Project Tiger gonna be the complete, no expense spared, best of everything, ultimate off road Disco? Is money no object?

I only ask cos it seems as though you're really going to town on it. Castor correction, +3" suspension, body lift etc.

no it wont... a 3" lift will lift your chassis by 3". if you want more travel, you need longer shocks, dislocation cones, etc etc. you can get a hell of a lot of travel with a standard height suspension... its all how you do it.

if you fit +3" coils, +3" shocks, and extended bump stops, you'll basically still get the same travel as standard - you'll just be sat higher. now if you fit +2" coils, +2" shocks, -2" shock mounts, dislocation coils, etc.... you see where im going?

got 3" front/ 4" rear lift on the disco.but it is not a case of just fitting springs/shock's :wink:
to get it right you will have to spend more than £250 on a spring/shock kit
all the extra bits soon add up :shock:
but well worth the extra work
and i still run on a standard front prop

how come you can get away with running a standard front prop???


i do want to do everything properly but it will all be done gradually.

along with the 3" lift ill also be fitting 2" lower shock mounts, extended bump stops etc... so that it is all done the right way.

I have a 2" lift on mine, scorpion +2 springs, decarbon +2 shocks, -2 turrets and rear shock mounts, +4 brakelines etc and it works very well. If it's articulation you're after have a look at Suggs' gallery, I think some of his kit came from Bullfrog.

why not go for a 4 inch lift then?

I would suggest if you are going all out then do it big first time.

i ran at 4 inch with little additonal vibration from the prop but changed to a dual-cardon when i re mounted my shocks with extra long travel versions.

you wont gain travel as such but you gain room for tyres to travel upwards without hitting too early but without large offset the tyres will rub your turrets and rear spring hanger.

I would also look to dislocate from the axle.

As for the MM kit i dont know how good the springs are ...but you pay for what you get. Speak to Derrick from LRS as he can get custom made springs for about 250...

The cheap kits sold by mm4x4, paddock etc are basically lift kits with the main aim of lifint the vehicles ride height.

If you want more flex from a complete bolt on package then how about the Weekender kit from QT services. I haven't tried it myself but have heard/seen some good reviews of it.

They only seem to do kits for the defender range not disco :(



Ok so for a decent suspension set up to give good travel good build quality and above a 2" lift what are the best out there at a sensible price?

Think im going to try this kit and use the TD5 prop with castor correction  lower shock mounts etc...

and most prob run 265/75 muds.


i pressume its the disco td5 prop and flange i need as the 90 do it too?

or they both the same?

Yeah .

i have just asked him about how much the lines and shocks are extended by.

So we will see.

i could always buy the kit sell the shocks get 4" extended shocks fitted to lowered mounts and fit 1" spring blocks. or are these the wrong way to go??

springs are +2 and theres a 1 inch spacer giving +3. extended bumpstops and lines, and relocation cones


no problems with tyres rubbing anywere, and ive had it on the limit many times..
