baby welders
Rich_P:
I was giving an example. If you just intend on welding flimsy bits of mild steel that bend easily, then you're going to be okay with a 'baby welder'.
Mudlark:
If you've never welded before the last thing you want is an arc welder - you'll never get on with it especially if you try welding body panels with it.
What you want is a small Mig welder buy second hand for around £50 for a 130 amp - new around £130

Arc is for farmers welding girders :!:
get a gasless mig or the small hole your trying to fix will become a great big one .I got a snapon 120 amp mig that runs with or without gas for £60 from a car boot great for patches and if I need to do anything big I use the kempi at work

yeah just spoke to dave on the phone and he said about the same. anyone wanna sell me a dirt cheap mig then?

If you go to your local auto spares dept like Brown Bro etc etc they will be able to fit you up with a good deal. I'd go for a wee 150 clarke welder, had one for years when I started out. Before I went to an industrial one.
Leave the Co2 gas alone and try to get a small argshield bottle from BOC.
Once you start It will pay dividends. You will never look back.
Cheers H1
PS those junk mail catalogues which come through the post have great buys machine mart, etc etc.
