Ever more insurance grumbles
« on: June 02, 2007, 15:00:14 »
For the first time ever, I had a nice surprise when my insurance renewal came through today.  For reasons best known to the insurer (and who am I to query them) the premium is half what it was last year.  It's still not a total bargain but it's a massive improvement.

Anyway I thought I'd shop around, so I went to confused.com and spent some considerable time filling in the forms.

The results came back and...

Not ONE of their insurers would even QUOTE me!

I'm 31, have had a full license for 14 years, live in a reasonable area, park the car on a drive, and have only made 1 claim in the last 12 years (for damage sustained whilst it was parked, where I knew who the guilty party was but had no proof, so had to claim on my own insurance).  I have a couple of 5 year old SP30s but apart from that I'm clean and moderately respectable.

So what was the excuse?

With most of the insurers it's because they were "unable to quote for modified vehicles".  There were 2 modifications to declare on the form:  the chip and the suspension.  (My existing insurer doesn't care less about the suspension, or anything else apart from the chip, which I pay a premium for.)

This just goes to confirm my hatred of insurance companies.  I hope there is a special place in hell for them.  It makes me wonder - if I was younger, lived in a dodgy area and - heaven forbid - I had made a couple of claims, how would I ever get insurance at all?

stick to the specialised insurance 4x4 market

they know the best, normal every day car type don't like any modifications, they don't understand or not intested
Without a club  2008 - any takers
