Locking Centre Diff
« on: June 01, 2007, 11:47:48 »
Guys, sorry for the fairly noddy question but i can engage the diff lock lever positively as it should but no light comes on the dash. Does the diff lock using a spring mechanism?? not too sure on the mechanics?? could someone help me out?

Cheers guys

oh its a disco box in a 90 but not gear levers are in the correct place. How can i tell whether its running a disco t-box as opposed to a def one. Only got it yesterday!!

right, 1st make sure that difflock is actualy engaging....to do that
engage it
put handbreak on
chock rear wheels
take out of gear on main bix if not already
jack up 1 front wheel
it should not rotate all the way just only a bit, if it does then difflock is siezed and needs freeing off

if it doesnt spin then

check the switch is adjusted correctly
check the wires are on the switch
but most of all....make sure the blinning bulb is ok

to identify the box

look underneath the filler pulg and there will be a sticker with a ratio onit

1.222 ratio is a disco t/box.... ( ups cruising speed )
1.410 is a 90/later 110 box........this is the correct one that should be fitted
1.6 is a early 110 box.....   ( to fit to alter gearing if running 35inch tyres )
