theres a hole in my disco.....
« on: May 31, 2007, 12:20:23 »
Need a bit of advice,
on the rear wheel arch inside the rear doors next to the seats, on my disco I have discovered a couple of small rust holes. are there repair bits for this or could I just fibre glass it up?
I think its a common area for rust. Want to keep this car for a while longer so any advice would be welcome.

Is this an MOT problem as its coming up in August...

Cheers

It needs to be welded up and I don't think there are any replacement panels..

It's part of the seatbelt mounting points for the rear seats, certainly within 12cm of them or whatever it is...

would be worth checking the rear floor and making sure that's alright, since that usually rusts first.

Yea you could be right, Ive got a set of side steps on it at the moment but there trashed now     had far to much fun at Bures last time I was there.
plus two of the four LPG tanks ive got are in the sills so thought if I took off the side steps (cause there trashed)I should put something back just to help protect the tanks.
but MOT first I supose.

Why not just take out the rear seats. No seats no requirement for seat belts therefore passes MOT. Mine did. Then put the seats back afterwards. Just gives you another year to get them sorted.

Good idea, but if the seat belt fails afterwards your insurance company will wash there hands with you & think about the passenger thats not belted in properly   , £100 seems fair, pity your not a bit closer as I would have a look at it for you as I do most of the welding for the ''WestMids crew''.

Im going to attack it over the weekend with a wire brush, see how bad it is.
I work in Barking  (essex) and there are quite a few body shops near by. so will get a few  ideas on price, might not be to bad if I strip all the trim back myself. its not a big hole, and its only on the wheel arch piece, not the body pannel that the rear seat belt is fastened to. shame there isnt a repair pannel available.

On a good note I had a poke around with a screwdriver around the rear load floor and it all seems good!! so its just these two rear wheel arches...

looks like that jet washer was a good investment then !!

Andy

ps
Its got to be done so if there is anyone in essex can do it, I would rather pay a club member than a stranger !!
