Driving me Crazy -2

<< < (2/4) > >>

Edge:
Everyone should be retested every 10yrs. Cant believe there are drivers out there who cant parallel park   (how the hell did they get a licence?)

Sider:
In all honesty, sod the parking. What worries me is that there are lots of drivers around who would qualify for entry on the RNIB.

Back in sunny Spain, every five years you have to undertake medical tests to prove that you are still fit to drive. Get to 65, and the tests are to be taken every year.

As for reaction times, don't get me started. The amount of times I've had OAPs pull out straight in front of my lorry are uncountable. Then there are those who pull out of the junction, see you coming towards them, and freeze in place, looking at you in terror.

Instead of road pricing, make psychotechnical examinations compulsory. That'll sort out some of the congestion.

When I learnt to drive (like all of 5 years ago), you had to perform 3 different maovers during the driving test, but these could be any 3 of a number of maovers, chosen by examinar. During mine IIRC I only had to do a 3 point turn, hill start and emergancy stop. Others would include parrallel park, reversing round a corner etc.

I'm not sure when the tests became like that or whether they are still the same, but thats how they have been.

On a current driving test, you will be given two of the set exercises. These being:

Turn in the road using forward and reverse gears.

Reverse parallel park / Reverse park into a bay (depending on test centre)

Reverse into limited opening (side road)

In addition, you could be given a Hill Start, Emergency Stop or Angled Start.

And why isn't motorway driving part of the test?

I might buy bull bars just to shunt idiots (of any age, but usually driving Vauxhalls) chugging along in the middle lane no faster than the slow lane.

Testing every 10 years is the best idea there is in my view. Keeps the roads safer and the government shoudl like it as it would amount to an extra revenue source!
