Double Din head unit in a 2002 Defender Dash?
« on: May 22, 2007, 16:35:52 »
Hi,

I was thinking of putting a double din sat nav unit in my defender. Has anyone tried enlarging the hole in the centre console and is there enough room behind it?

Thanks

Adam

Adam,

It's quite tight behind the existing radio as it is. I have a non-factory head unit, and use one of those short conversion looms to connect the factory loom to the head, and it can be a right PITA  getting the head unit back into the slot. Having said that, if you do away with the big chunky LR ICE connector, and solder/crimp direct to the new head units loom, it may just fit !

Thanks for the reply. Once I've finished my rebuild I'll have a go. The other option is to buy a dash monitor   http://www.shop.edirectory.co.uk/car_audio_direct/918/mia/pid/5397688
and have the electronic under the seat or in the cubby box

Thanks

Adam
