Rusted drive flange prob
Hangover:
Was going to fit the front discs on the 90 today but found that the drive flange has rusted solid on the cv joint :( ,removed the rubber hub cap and it was just rust, put the angle grinder with the wire brush on it and the circlip has disapeared plus it's groove, what are we going to need parts wise to do the job properly,i presume some serious heat is needed on the flange.
Thanks,
Kev

Nobody seems to want to answer you
Have you tried Plus Gas on the rusted bits. Try taking the flange bolts out, knocking the drive shaft in. Then seeing if the flange will work loose from the hub. Plenty Plus Gas should free the bits off.
I'll not comment on what you might need. It's a long time since I took all that lot to bits.
Whan you come to refit everything. Put a bit of gear oil in the rubber cap. That helps to keep the splines lubricated. I do that on each service. Also I've damaged the inner axle seals to let gear oil come along the halfshaft.
Is there any oil in the diff ??
my ten bobs worth.
Hangover:
I was suprised at the amount of rust, the trucks done 100k so looks like it's never had new discs,i reckon i'll be buying new flanges an cv's the way things are going.

if you cleaned all the splines up on the cv, remove or break what evers left of the circlip
warm the drive flange up and hit the cv with a copper hammer, theres usualy about half inch of endfloat on them so theres enough there to get it moving,
in the end of the cv is a threaded section put there so you can pull the damn cv out after you pushed it in when fitting the flange , stick a bolt in there and pull the cv back out
then its just a matter of working it and adding some wd40 to help it onits way

Great i wasnt sure how far the cv would go back with hammering, there's nothing left of the circlip or it's groove, would it be ok to make another groove with a hacksaw as it seems a shame to replace the cv just for that.
