Alternator
Neill:
My first post to this forum and it is with a problem. Typical Land Rover :-)
I have ordered and received anew alternator.
http://www.hogarth.de/lr/1%20005.jpg is the new alternator and has three connections - W B+ and D+ It also has a cable with connector hanging in the air
http://www.hogarth.de/lr/1%20006.jpg is the existing alternator and has a single row of three connectors for the plug shown.
So the questions are:
Will this alternator work?
Am I missing something?
Where can I get help on how to go about wiring things properly?
As always - thanks in advance.

The alternator should work.
Connections on thw new alternator are :
B+ -> Battery
D+ -> Dashboard CHarge Light
W -> Tacho feed
If you just have 2 wires in the existing plug.. take it off, or cut it off, depending on how you are feeling.
The big cable which should head off towards your starter motor goes to B+, the D+ goes to the other cable which ought to head towards the bulkhead.
Hope that helps.
Neill:
Wow!
That's what you call service. 10 minutes for a professional and sensible answer. :D
Thanks!
But I am obviously thick.
B+ battery OK
D+ Dashboard charge light OK - I think?
W Tacho Feed. Tacho? What Tacho?
I have three wires, two are thick and one thin. I will have to research where they go to. Is the ground connection just through the mountings?
As I said - thanks and sorry.
muddyweb:
Some of those new fangled Land Rovers have them :-)
Tells you how fast the engine is going round ;-)
