Yes, and broken down!
It's only for the movement of a broken down vehicle to a place of safety.
Unless it weights under 750kgs gvw (where the camper-vans get away with it). as it's then a un-braked trailer.

Yes if it's on a public highway. it has to be taxed, mot'd and insured. Also unless you are recovering a vehicle which has broken down A Frames are illegal if towing more than 750kg Gross weight. Your SJ weighs more than this so you can't tow it with an A frame anyway.

My SJ is always broken down after a play day and strangely its broken down on the way there but is easily fixed!
My SJ doesn't weigh 750kg!
At the end of the day Baz it depends when you tow it, you are more likely to ge grief from VOSA than PLOD! they are scarse on a Sunday, On Backroads

Even if it is under 750kg, on a trailer that has got brakes fitted they have to work, so even most of the camper vans are illegal, some may have over run brakes linked to the handbrake mechanism but I doubt theres any that are plumbed into the hydraulic circuits so that all 4 brakes work which is how it needs to be to truely make it legal. VOSA are getting very ken on pulling trailers but seem to be after the proffesionals really and not working weekends so much.
