Ashcroft transmissions TD5 Gear upgrade

(1/2) > >>

burgerman:
Howdy   Swmbo has a 2001 TD5 90 and is thinking of doing the ratio upgrade to "disco 2 " from ashcroft transmissions, From what i gather  we are pretty happy with there work, But was wondering if anyone has had this done and whats it like in the real world ??  Ie - - does it stilll pull ok, any mpg difference??      Mainly getting it for a more relaxed cruising revs, not overall speed

Possibly got a european road trip coming soon (ish) so might make things a tad more "drivable"  Many thanks for any help

smo:
I had it done on my 110, mainly because i wanted better cruising characteristics. The upgrade is great but dont expect it to be a world apart, its not a masssssive change but is worth it.

I did have an allisport intercooler and chip on mine as well tho :D

You could always fit larger tyres and get same effect. If you don't like it you can go back to smaller diameter tyres.

Cheers

The Ashcroft upgrade only affects high ratio.  If you changed the tyre size you'd lose your low gearing in low box as well.  Which may or may not be important;  a 10% change in gearing isn't going to make too much difference at the low end.

she runs 235/85/16 at the moment , but im wondering if its worth the money for the gain ??  anyone localish to hampshire/berkshire currently using this set up ???
