Winch Mounting on a Disco 1 - 200 TDI
« on: April 28, 2007, 20:13:08 »
I have just ordered a new winch

The question is do I mount it above the bumper, in the grill
                                 or
Below the bumper, bolted to a winch plate mounted on the Chasis?

 Any comments grately recieved.

what about above bumper outside grill, sure you lose some approach but you can get to all the winch and you dont restrict access to the spool/ rope, connections either.

I quite like the discrete below bumper mounts.

Cheers

What is going to be the easilest way of mounting (both above and below)?

Saving up for a winch bumper.

Don't fancy cutting up the grill though

Got to go with RRB keep it high and out of the muck, most times you find yourself stuck your up to your wheel arches in the gooey stuff. Also think about where your going to put your remote connection. A lot of people tend to put them on the grill, again when your in the muck it's a b*&ger to plug it in. Most of our lot have the winch wired to an electric window switch in the cab so you can work it without the remote.

Is it possible to mount behind the original bumper and mount the fairlead on the front of the bumper where the number plate is?

Which one have you ordered then?
I prefer the discreet ones that go under the original front bumper, still keep the cosmetics of the front but with the added winch, although the angles etc are not as good as the bumper mounted one. I know Bearmach do a discreet winch mount?

Also I have an original LR accessories catalogue for the 200tdi that shows the discreet winch in place, do you want me to post it?

It is a 12,000lb winch from Germany. (Cheaper from abroad)

Any chance you can scan the brochure and email it to me?

Where to mount Winch - Disco 1 - 200 TDI
Morning all,

 I have mounted a 9000lb winch behind the original bumper on a plate I bought from Champion, all you can see from the front is the fairlead, all you need is someone who can weld to a high standard :!: It mounts on the front body mounts, I don't have a diggi camera to get you a pic on here but if your around this area or going to one of the shows I'll gladly show you mine  another thing to consider is a wireless remote (I should be on comision) that way you can operate the winch wherever you want to be. It wasn't difficult to do,, trust me I'm not mechanically minded, just own a landy?
