Leaks and Dribbles
Terminus:
Ok I need a touch of help here with my 1995 200 TDI Dsico (it's been a long time since I was mechanical with anything and I've never been under a Disco before)
I have some rather worrying leaks - Pictues on my profile right here

1) there is a bolt missing from dead centre of what appears to be the gearbox area (My mind is thinking drain plug of some sort which would explain the mess)
2) Metal pipes with rubber section under the car at the front of the engine is leaking a clear red oil - what is this - steering fluid?
3) The ball joint on the front left wheel is oilier than an oily thing with oil on it - what needs replaced?
Beside that I have a diff seal gone at the rear near the hub (the hub and brakes are soaked in black gooey oil) but I think I can deal with this if I can only work out what exact seal it is I am looking to buy.
Advice greatly appreciated - I'm a point and press worker not a mechanic lol I can fix it if I know what it actually is.

the bolt missing is supposed to be , its where you would fit the wading plug if you go in deep water they are normally not there
the pipes leaking are steering pipes and the red fluid is indeed the steering fluid, might be the pipes are past their best or the metal part on the chassis has chaffed where it,s clipped on, thats quite common
if there,s a lot of oil and a drip onto the floor from the swivel it may just be the swivel seal thats leaking, check the chrome is intact on the swivel and not pitted and rusty, this can cause the seal to leak
hope that helps a bit :D

Many thanks for that
Now I just need to figure out where the oil leak is coming from - there is only a small drip on the sump but it does not appear to be coming from the sump - as you can probably see from the pics the whole area is rather soaked with oil.
Cheers again
beast5680:
you will probably need to steam clean it first then look, a small drip can be blown backwards along the underside and look worse than it is

Its a known trait of the Land Rover syndrome, Land Rovers love to tell their owners that they have feelings too everytime you slam that door, or kick its tyre. You need to caress it lovingly and it'll stop
