Anyone here got a series 3 with a perkins engine in? what they like as powerful as is reputable or just noisy? xx

Miniman had one, a 4203 , had massive grunt but no revs, maxed out at about 2500.......  Pulled like a train but even with 90 diffs it maxed out about 60mph.....  Noisy but cool imho, i was impressed..........

I have the aforementioned 4203,and as jim willy says it is no dragster! : :lol: I haven't used it in an offroad environment yet but managed 55 on the dual carriage way!I didn't think its that noisey but I was more interested in trying  to keep it pointing in a straight line-tyre issues!I did manage a short phone conversationwhile driving!well just.Fuel wise I didn't seem to bad again no worse than a normal diesel.
If your near swad/birmingham  give us a shout and come and look.

There are different perkins engines, depending on what the original vehicle was, the engine could have come from a wide variety or uses, car, marine, agricultre...

Some are low revving like the 4203, others rev a bit higher, you shouldn't have any problems with the perkins prima turbo'd 2.0l from a Montego, though you may have to watch your off road use being as the sump is not designed to be at silly angles like the LR engines are.

Some are better than others, and all return a reasonably MPG, some more reasonable than others.

I overheard 2 traiders talking at sodbury when everyone was packing up saying he was thinking about throwing the 4203 conversion plate he was trying to sell on the scrap heap it had so little interest.  He muttered 10 years ago people really wanted them.

A mate has just bought one of these diesel dinosor conversions and loves it.  Its slow but he didn't buy a diesel 2a for speed anyway.  Rarely needs to come out of 4th once you get it going he says.

One day they'll be back in fassion as a 'classic conversion' I'm sure.
