my bro in laws g plate 2.5td has low oil presure when hot im guesing that its gona be a replacment pump ive never worked on one of these engines and was wondering if it is a pig of a job or a straight forward one?

sure its not oil to thin ?
u rigged a pressure guage up to see what it is pumping exactly ?

if no joy, need remove the sump to access it

I agree a pressure gauge would help.

Could also be worn bearings, but then you'd probably hear then rattle when it was cold.

if was me, id be trying fresh thicker oil before ripping it to shreads,
and stick a new filter onit aswel
and then take it from there

i should of mentioned that the car has just had a service so the ol is brand new also its fited with an oil presure gauge that looks standard and when warm on tick over is showing around 10psi!

so can i asume that the pump is not fited round the end of the crank like most engines?

The pump is bolted to the bottom of the block inside the sump. Drain the oil and leave it to drip overnight to minimise it dripping on you  :?
Undo all the sump bolts - there loads.
The sump should be stuck on with RTV sealant, so you will have to carefully prise the sump pan away.
The oil pick-up strainer will be evident and comes off off with the pump (you can remove it seperately if you wish. Remove the fixings that hold the pump in place and it will slide down at a slight angle off of the drive shaft that also drives the vaccuum pump. There will more oil dribbling out when you do this, so make sure you are off to one side. You can then strip the pump on the kitchen table and excessive play between the gears and housing is what you are lookin for.

excellent reply sounds simple enough the last oil pump i did was on a vauxhal 2.0 16v which involved pulling the bottom  pully off and was a right tit
