Wheel size explained
CanIBeFrank:
Hi,
Bet everyone knows the answer to this :?
The size on wheels eg 8x16 Black Modular, the 8 is offset?
What does that actually mean? distance from the hub?
I have 300Tdi Disco 95 5 door (will fit a 2" lift shortly), what would fitting 8x16 gain over 7x16? I aim to fit 235/85 Machos.
Thanks.
andyb:
The 8 is the width/depth of the rim in inches.
What do you gain? Ability to fit wider tyres :)

Thanks andyb, that was a quick reply, are you stalking this forum ;).
So on a 235/85 I would be fine on a 7x16?
Disco-Ron:
235 85's would be better on 7's, the 8mm offset means that the hub face, is 8mm nearer the outside rim than from the centre of the rim..... if that makes sense.... a wheel with the hub face directly in the centre has an offset of zero..... nearer the outer face is positive, nearer the inside is negative offset...
Hope that helps!!

Yep. I'm running 255/65s on 7x16 rims.
